What is Business?

Business is an academic subject taught in some schools from GCSE level, but in most schools largely at A-Level. It is the study of skills relating to running a business; including finance, accountancy, management, business organisation, human resources, marketing and advertising.

Business Tuition at GCSE and IGCSE

Business is considered to be an accessible GCSE course, taken by students across the full range of abilities, and often those with a particular interest in Business, Economics and Accountancy. In recent years, Business has become an increasingly popular subject choice, but not many schools are able to include this within their already over-loaded GCSE curriculum, so most schools introduce Business at A level only. Exam Boards offering GCSE Business include AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC (Eduqas) and CCEA. GCSE BTEC Business is also available, as a more vocational option, in a small number of schools and colleges. Generally GCSE Business is assessed with two exam papers, each of 1 hour 45 minutes; typically paper 1 focusing on the themes of "Starting a Business" and paper 2 on "Growing a Business".

Business Tuition at A-Level

A-Level Business is an inter-discplinary subject stretching across the disciplines of Accountancy, Economics, Management Science, Law and Social Psychology. Most students choosing an A-Level Business Course will do so without having done GCSE Business. A number of students may consider choosing Economics and/or Business at A-Level. Economics focuses much more on the global picture of world finances and economic processes, whereas Business keeps the specific focus on developing skills to manage a specific organisation or company. Generally, schools advise that students pick one of either Business or Economics, not both, and that the more academically-inclined students should opt for the more rigorous Economics Course. Business requires less understanding than Economics but involves more learning of content and so there is arguably more work to cover.

The cost of a Business tutor in Dorking can vary depending on several factors, such as qualifications, experience, and whether Face-to-Face or Online. Private Business tutors in Dorking may cost anywhere from £15 to £60 per hour. A qualified teacher in Dorking from Teachers To Your Home, will range from £17.50 per hour for online group tuition, to £50 for Face-to-Face A Level Business Tuition in Dorking.

Face-to-face tuition in Dorking allows for direct interaction and personalized attention from the Business tutor. It provides a more structured learning environment and can help students stay more motivated and focused. On the other hand, online tuition offers more flexibility in terms of scheduling and location. Students can access Business tutoring from anywhere and online sessions can be recorded for future reference. Online tuition also tends to be more affordable and can offer a wider range of Business tutors and subjects. Ultimately, the best choice depends on the individual student's needs and preferences. Younger or SEN students may benefit more from face-to-face tuition, while older students may prefer the convenience and flexibility of online tuition.

Group Business tutoring provides a supportive environment where students can work together, learn from one another and engage in collaborative problem-solving. It provides students with a variety of perspectives and ideas, which can lead to a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Being in a group allows students to work together, communicate effectively, and develop teamwork skills. Group Business tutoring is often less expensive than one-on-one Business tutoring, making it more accessible for students who need extra help.

Not every child in Dorking needs a Business tutor, but there are many scenarios where tuition will be beneficial. The obvious is if a child is not attending school for whatever reason. If they are at school, a Business tutor may be needed to stop a student from falling behind, which can lead to disillusionment and behavioural issues; or to get back on track after a poor end-of-year exam result. If a specific learning difficulty or Special Educational Need (SEN) is identified, then Business Tuition in Dorking can provide a vital reinforcement. For high stakes exams, such as 11+, Common Entrance (often 13+) for schools in Dorking, GCSE and A-Level or IB, tuition can provide that final boost to get over the line, the stretch to reach the top grades required for the next stage of education, or assistance with specific exam techniques that may not be taught at school.
