Hi, I'm Eleanor, a primary school teacher from Lancashire. I have been teaching for 14 years across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. I have supported children with a variety of special educational needs, each one bringing their unique challenges and triumphs. Whether it's been in the role of a tutor, providing one-on-one guidance, or as a class teacher, preparing students for SATs, every moment has been an opportunity to make a difference and watch these young learners shine. My teaching style is rooted in being friendly, patient, and approachable, creating a supportive environment where the student feels valued and encouraged to thrive. I believe in using a diverse range of resources, from traditional texts to interactive technology, to cater to the unique needs and learning styles of each individual learner.

I have enjoyed over 12 years teaching and tutoring children from Year 1 to Year 5 with a wide variety of children of every ability and background, including specific needs such as autism, speech and learning difficulties (as well as those who are ahead and need extra challenge). I have always worked hard to help children build their self-confidence, as I think self believe is one of the most important keys to success. I can help you fill gaps, keep on track or get ahead. I know that some children find it a lot easier to focus 1:1 than in a whole class setting (and may have different needs to their peers) so extra support during term time can be very valuable and beneficial. I tailor my teaching to individual needs and personalities as I know we all learn differently.

Does your child need support as they prepare for their SATs (KS1 or KS2)? Or, perhaps they would benefit from a confidence boost before September? Well, Im here to help. More specifically, I'm here to help your child discover how they learn and process as an individual. My name is Sophie, and I am a fully qualified Primary School Teacher with experience teaching KS1 and KS2 children. I am well versed in the expectations surrounding reading, writing, maths and SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar). My tutor sessions are consciously tailored to your childs individual needs, thus allowing them to build their knowledge, skills and confidence. The focus can be singular and focus on specific areas of need. Alternatively, you might prefer broader coverage of multiple topics per the national curriculum. My existing tutees describe my lessons as practical and engaging.

Reviews for tutors in Barrow-in-Furness

5.0

Judith has been tutoring my daughter, currently in Year 11, for almost two years. We lived abroad for a number of years and when we returned to the UK my daughter had a lack of confidence in maths as well as a number of gaps in her learning. Judith was able to quickly assess where my daughter needed additional support in her maths and work with her to improve her confidence. Judith is extremely organised, often sending through worksheets and old exam papers for us to print off. She has also recommended a number of revision materials for GCSE. Due to Covid, all lessons were carried out on Zoom. The Zoom sessions worked really well for us and most importantly my daughter really enjoyed them. I would thoroughly recommend Judith. In fact, I have 2 younger children and I am likely to be in touch with Judith in the near future to ask for her support. Mrs R H

My son is 10 years old and he has been learning English with Lauren for 6-7 months already. He really enjoys his lessons with her. She is such a nice person and super friendly with kids. I love the topics they cover during the lessons and the way Lauren teaches grammar. Mrs A Arshakyan

Every child thrives from that little bit of time set aside, especially for their learning and with someone who cares. Here's where I can help. As an experienced primary school teacher who has worked both in mainstream and SEN settings, I understand that every child needs to be nurtured and pushed in different, engaging ways in order to excel. I have been tutoring since April 2023 and use my experience in running after-school clubs and school council projects to tap into children's interests to make them feel valued and, therefore, want to learn. I create bespoke learning plans to help bridge any gaps in learning and to push higher achievers to succeed. I have also trained in sensory processing disorders, and I am fully flexible in taking any additional needs into account.

We only ever offer qualified teachers as tutors, as we believe professional teachers provide the highest quality of tuition.

Location
Home Tuition: Involves a teacher coming to your home in Barrow-in-Furness to provide one-on-one instruction. This offers convenience as you don't need to travel. Online Tuition: This can take place anywhere with an internet connection. Small Group Tuition: Typically with between 2 to 4 children, and often occurs in a physical location such as your home, though it can also be online.

Individual Attention
Home Tuition: Offers the highest level of individual attention, as the tutor focuses solely on one student. Online Tuition: Still allows for one-to-one attention, but it may be slightly less personal than home tuition due to potential distractions. Small Group Tuition: Offers less individual attention as the tutor must divide their time and attention among multiple students.

Cost
Home Tuition: This tends to be more expensive because it involves one-on-one teaching, and the tutor is required to travel to your home, in Barrow-in-Furness. Online Tuition: Often more affordable than home tuition as your tutor does not need to travel but may still cost more than small group tuition. Small Group Tuition: Generally, this is the most cost-effective option, as the costs are shared among several families.

Flexibility
Home Tuition: Offers flexibility in terms of scheduling and curriculum, as your tutor will only be working with your child. Online Tuition: Provides flexibility in terms of location and may offer a wider selection of tutors. Small Group Tuition: Lessons will be more difficult to schedule as lesson times will have to fit in with other families.

Interaction
Home Tuition: Offers in-person interaction, which can be beneficial for students who learn better through face-to-face communication. Online Tuition: Provides interaction through video conferencing tools and chat, which can be engaging but may not suit everyone's learning style. Small Group Tuition: Allows for peer interaction, which can benefit collaborative learning and discussions.

The choice between home, online, or small group tuition in Barrow-in-Furness depends on your preferences, budget, and the student's specific educational needs. Each option has advantages and disadvantages, so it's essential to consider these factors when deciding.
