Reviews for tutors in Brighton

Dr
Dr Evans
Online teacher for Year 6 School Entrance Exams 11+ with 1 student
We have watched our daughter thrive under Bethan's tutelage, I genuinely could not recommend her enough. Bethan is lovely, funny and engaging! Our daughter loves the sessions and comes away happy and chatting about the things she has learnt. I genuinely could not have asked for a better teacher. Excellent value for money. Amazing with our daughter who was very tentative to begin with! Has made subject my daughter hates enjoyable to her. Sessions are fun and informative - our daughter seems to be able to grasp concept with ease with Bethan. We initially hired to help with admission exams and we will be continuing the sessions beyond these exams because it has been so beneficial for our daughter. Would highly recommend!

Hi Bethan, we've been delighted by the experience of tutoring with you so far. I really appreciated how you listened to me when we had an initial chat about J's needs. He comes away from the sessions really upbeat and confident. I can also tell that you've been pinpointing key areas he needs to work on for the entrance exam. Thank you.

How are Brighton schools performing?

We connect you to the best teachers who work across several of the best primary and secondary schools in Brighton (some detailed below). This means we can reliably provide you with a local and experienced tutor that fits your needs.

Brighton primary school performance:

The Brighton area has 48 primary schools (one of the top being St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School with 22% of pupils achieving at a higher standard).

From their latest Oftsed report:
“The quality of teaching is good, and results in pupils’ good progress. However, the tasks set for some pupils are not consistently well matched to their prior attainment and different needs so as to provide good levels of challenge. The pace of learning could sometimes be more brisk. Target setting does not always help pupils to understand the next steps in their learning to the extent that it should.”

The Brighton local authority has an average of 67% of students meeting the expected standards in reading, writing, and maths at primary school age (vs England's average of 65%). And has an average of 11% achieving higher standard (vs England's average of 11%).

Brighton secondary school performance:

The Brighton area has 22 secondary schools (one of the top being Varndean School with 62% of pupils achieving grade 5 or above in English and Maths GCSEs).

From their latest Oftsed report:
“Teaching is good, with some that is outstanding. Teachers develop good working relationships in the classroom and have high expectations of their students.”

The Brighton local authority has an average of 47% of students achieving grade 5 or above in English and Maths GCSEs (vs England's average of 43%). And has an average of 94% of students either staying in education or entering employment after GCSEs (vs England's average of 94%).

There is no excellent learning without excellent teaching, and our teachers are expected to teach in a way that inspires and motivates. We have over 20,000 talented teachers providing tuition, chosen for their broad range of experience, professionalism, academic specialisms, passion, and dedication to their students. We only ever offer qualified teachers as tutors, as we believe professional teachers provide the highest quality of tuition.

Location
Home Tuition: Involves a teacher coming to your home in Brighton to provide one-on-one instruction. This offers convenience as you don't need to travel. Online Tuition: This can take place anywhere with an internet connection. Small Group Tuition: Typically with between 2 to 4 children, and often occurs in a physical location such as your home, though it can also be online.

Individual Attention
Home Tuition: Offers the highest level of individual attention, as the tutor focuses solely on one student. Online Tuition: Still allows for one-to-one attention, but it may be slightly less personal than home tuition due to potential distractions. Small Group Tuition: Offers less individual attention as the tutor must divide their time and attention among multiple students.

Cost
Home Tuition: This tends to be more expensive because it involves one-on-one teaching, and the tutor is required to travel to your home, in Brighton. Online Tuition: Often more affordable than home tuition as your tutor does not need to travel but may still cost more than small group tuition. Small Group Tuition: Generally, this is the most cost-effective option, as the costs are shared among several families.

Flexibility
Home Tuition: Offers flexibility in terms of scheduling and curriculum, as your tutor will only be working with your child. Online Tuition: Provides flexibility in terms of location and may offer a wider selection of tutors. Small Group Tuition: Lessons will be more difficult to schedule as lesson times will have to fit in with other families.

Interaction
Home Tuition: Offers in-person interaction, which can be beneficial for students who learn better through face-to-face communication. Online Tuition: Provides interaction through video conferencing tools and chat, which can be engaging but may not suit everyone's learning style. Small Group Tuition: Allows for peer interaction, which can benefit collaborative learning and discussions.

The choice between home, online, or small group tuition in Brighton depends on your preferences, budget, and the student's specific educational needs. Each option has advantages and disadvantages, so it's essential to consider these factors when deciding.
