I was a BBC Radio researcher and have many years of experience working in creative environments, including music, film and multimedia. My time teaching in schools and colleges has given me a far-reaching experience in planning, delivering and assessing to different curriculum guidelines. I feel passionate about Politics and Political History and believe they go hand in hand with the study of Media. I am a voice-over artist and have worked as a newsreader on local radio, both of which help me in my oral communication when teaching. Having written and produced the award-winning independent short film Letterbox, this involved casting, acting, scoring, scripting, budgeting, and marketing within the low-budget independent film Industry. I am an experienced one-to-one tutor; subjects include: English Language and Literature, Film, Media, Politics, and Sociology, all at A level and GCSE. I am the head tutor of Film A-Level at Pembrokeshire College.

A seasoned teacher with 17 years of experience, 15 years teaching in the independent sector. I am Head of Languages at my current school, where I have successfully implemented Spanish throughout the whole school from Nursery to Year 6. I also work in another independent school, preparing pupils for their Common Entrance in French and Spanish. My Spanish results this year were the highest in the school! Many of my pupils have successfully gained places at schools such as Uppingham, Harrow, Oundle and Shrewsbury - to name but a few. My passions lie within language teaching methodology. I use an approach created by Dr Gianfranco Conti in which children learn language more instinctively. I was recently asked to be a guest proofreader on Dr Conti's latest book. I firmly believe everyone can learn a language and learn it well!

Libby began giving our son extra tutoring in Y11 and for approximately one academic year. Though this was an hour of extra tuition once a week, mainly during term-time, our son found it very useful as this helped him improve from the region of grade 4s/5s in Y10 to 7-9s in Y11. It was very helpful in improving specific aspects of the subject which required more help. It also improved his confidence in the subject. The lessons were online but our son found them similar in quality to in-person lessons. There were a range of different activities, resources and homework. Libby came across, as very organised, evident in term dates and times provided ahead of time and lesson plans for the lessons. She was also professional. I also received feedback, some by request and others from Libby's initiative. I would recommend Libby as a good French tutor if you're looking for tutoring for your child. Mrs D

Libby tutored my daughter before her GCSEs, and I can't recommend her highly enough! She is very professional to deal with, knowledgeable about the subject and a great teacher, as well as patient and supportive to the student. She calmly encouraged S and gave her a boost of confidence and skills, which helped her to gain excellent GCSE results. We are so grateful for her and would definitely recommend her to others. Mrs W

I have been teaching Classics in leading independent schools for over 15 years. I completed my PGCE in Secondary Classics at the University of Cambridge and have taught Latin, Classical Civilisation and Classical Greek to A-Level. Many of my students have gone onto leading universities to study Classics at degree level and eight of them are now Classics teachers themselves. I have led outreach projects across the city to ensure that there is no limitation for those children who would like to access the subject of Classics. I am happy working with students from KS1 to Sixth Form in classical subjects. After having my own children, I decided to pursue my dream of teaching in reception and I am currently teaching in EYFS. I am, therefore, also happy to offer support with phonics, basic numeracy or communication and language work.

I am a qualified primary school teacher, and I have a passion for passing on knowledge and solidifying children's knowledge hence why I've been in the profession for as long as I have. Knowing that the basics a child has learnt have come from their hard work and everything is possible is such a joy. My teaching style is very practical, using visuals and resources to help children see and envisage their learning, which can then be used in a methodical approach. I have abundant knowledge in teaching ELS and Jolly Phonics as well as talk4writing and following white rose maths schemes. I always personalise and adapt my teaching according to a child's ability. I love to sing and dance, and sometimes if that is what a child need to remember information, then fear not, it's exactly what I will do!

Teachers To Your Home specialises in connecting you to local Sheffield-based teachers. We provide tutoring for all subjects and ages, but have the most experience and teachers in the following subject areas:

How are Sheffield schools performing?

We connect you to the best teachers who work across several of the best primary and secondary schools in Sheffield (some detailed below). This means we can reliably provide you with a local and experienced tutor that fits your needs.

Sheffield primary school performance:

The Sheffield area has 50 primary schools (one of the top being St Mary's Church of England Primary School with 29% of pupils achieving at a higher standard).

From their latest Oftsed report:
“Teaching is effective because teachers have high expectations and plan learning activities which are interesting and engaging. Generally, teachers use assessment information to make sure that work is pitched at the right level for pupils. However, this is sometimes less effective and, as a result, the most able pupils are not set challenging enough work.”

The Sheffield local authority has an average of 64% of students meeting the expected standards in reading, writing, and maths at primary school age (vs England's average of 65%). And has an average of 10% achieving higher standard (vs England's average of 11%).

Sheffield secondary school performance:

The Sheffield area has 30 secondary schools (one of the top being Notre Dame High School with 63% of pupils achieving grade 5 or above in English and Maths GCSEs).

From their latest Oftsed report:
“Notre Dame Catholic High School is an outstanding school. It provides its students with an excellent education and prepares them very well for the next stage in their life and career. They feel safe in school and enjoy all aspects of school life. Students thrive in an atmosphere where each is cherished as an individual, and all are challenged and supported to achieve their best. All students make very good progress, consistently, throughout the school. Very high levels of progress have been seen at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 over many years.”

The Sheffield local authority has an average of 39% of students achieving grade 5 or above in English and Maths GCSEs (vs England's average of 43%). And has an average of 93% of students either staying in education or entering employment after GCSEs (vs England's average of 94%).

Sheffield Ofsted ratings:

76% of Sheffield schools have received at least a 'Good' Ofsted rating, with 13 schools receiving an 'Outstanding' rating in their last evaluation.

Tuition with a qualified teacher at your home in Sheffield costs £46ph. Online tuition with a qualified teacher costs from £40ph. Create your own small tuition group in Sheffield and tuition costs from £17.50 ph.

Because we only ever work with qualified and experienced teachers in Sheffield, you will always get a highly experienced teacher who is safe, reliable and up to speed with the current curriculum and exam requirements. There is no excellent learning without excellent teaching, and our teachers are expected to teach in a way that inspires and motivates. We have over 20,000 talented teachers providing tuition, chosen for their broad range of experience, professionalism, academic specialisms, passion, and dedication to their students. We only ever offer qualified teachers as tutors, as we believe professional teachers provide the highest quality of tuition.

Location
Home Tuition: Involves a teacher coming to your home in Sheffield to provide one-on-one instruction. This offers convenience as you don't need to travel. Online Tuition: This can take place anywhere with an internet connection. Small Group Tuition: Typically with between 2 to 4 children, and often occurs in a physical location such as your home, though it can also be online.

Individual Attention
Home Tuition: Offers the highest level of individual attention, as the tutor focuses solely on one student. Online Tuition: Still allows for one-to-one attention, but it may be slightly less personal than home tuition due to potential distractions. Small Group Tuition: Offers less individual attention as the tutor must divide their time and attention among multiple students.

Cost
Home Tuition: This tends to be more expensive because it involves one-on-one teaching, and the tutor is required to travel to your home, in Sheffield. Online Tuition: Often more affordable than home tuition as your tutor does not need to travel but may still cost more than small group tuition. Small Group Tuition: Generally, this is the most cost-effective option, as the costs are shared among several families.

Flexibility
Home Tuition: Offers flexibility in terms of scheduling and curriculum, as your tutor will only be working with your child. Online Tuition: Provides flexibility in terms of location and may offer a wider selection of tutors. Small Group Tuition: Lessons will be more difficult to schedule as lesson times will have to fit in with other families.

Interaction
Home Tuition: Offers in-person interaction, which can be beneficial for students who learn better through face-to-face communication. Online Tuition: Provides interaction through video conferencing tools and chat, which can be engaging but may not suit everyone's learning style. Small Group Tuition: Allows for peer interaction, which can benefit collaborative learning and discussions.

The choice between home, online, or small group tuition in Sheffield depends on your preferences, budget, and the student's specific educational needs. Each option has advantages and disadvantages, so it's essential to consider these factors when deciding.
