1) Introduction
Teachers To Your Home Ltd (including "British Teachers") is an introduction platform. Teachers are self-employed. We conduct basic pre-screening before profiles go live, but schools are the employer (or engaging organisation) and must complete their own safer-recruitment checks and onboarding before any tuition starts.
2) Purpose & Scope
This policy applies only to tuition arranged for, by or through schools and educational organisations ("School Clients"). It explains what we check at pre-screening and what schools must do before engaging a teacher.
3) Principles
Learner safety is paramount.
We are not the employer and not a DSL.
Our pre-screening is additional to-not a substitute for-school safer-recruitment.
School policies and local law always take precedence (e.g., KCSIE in England; local equivalents internationally).
4) What We Check (Platform Pre-Screening)
Before a teacher profile is visible for school enquiries, we take reasonable steps to confirm:
Identity: current photo ID (passport or photo license) and a name and address match to the profile, via Stripe.
Qualifications: evidence of UK QTS/PGCE or recognised equivalent.
Criminal record: an enhanced DBS (or accepted international/police clearance for overseas teachers) dated within the last 3 years; DBS Update Service where applicable.
References: two professional referees, at least one from a recent educational role.
Safeguarding awareness: recent safeguarding/online-safety training and acceptance of our safeguarding standards and Terms for Tutors (schools section).
5) What Schools Must Do (Employer/Engager Responsibility)
Schools must complete their own safer-recruitment, record keeping and onboarding in line with their policy and local law, including (as applicable):
Identity, right-to-work/visa, and employment history checks.
Enhanced DBS/barred-list or international equivalents as required; prohibition/teacher status checks where applicable.
Direct reference verification to the school's standard.
Review of qualifications, induction, training and DSL reporting routes.
Confirmation of approved platforms, online-safety/AUP, data protection, and allegations procedures.
Any country-specific checks (international schools).
No tuition should commence until the School has completed and signed off its onboarding.
6) Information We Share With Schools
With the teacher's knowledge and per our Privacy Policy, we share profile information (subjects, qualifications, bio, reviews) and status confirmations (e.g., "DBS provided [date]", "two refs provided", "safeguarding training [date]"). We do not share CVs, full references, or phone numbers without the teacher's consent. Schools may ask to see originals directly as part of their process.
7) Ongoing Expectations (Teacher)
Keep DBS/clearances current (renew 3-yearly or maintain Update Service) and refresh safeguarding training at least every 2 years (annually preferred by many schools).
Disclose any change to safeguarding status, criminal record, professional sanctions or investigations to engaged Schools and to us.
Comply with the School's policies and DSL procedures at all times.
8) Allegations & Concerns
If an allegation or serious concern arises, the School leads case management under its policy (e.g., LADO consultation in England or local equivalent). On notification (no sensitive details required), we may pause introductions for that teacher and cooperate with lawful information requests.
9) Data Protection & Records
We store pre-screening records securely and retain them only as long as necessary (typically up to 6 years after last activity, or longer if required for safeguarding/legal reasons). See our Privacy Policy for lawful bases and your rights.
10) Our Limits
We facilitate introductions only. We are not the employer, do not act as a DSL, do not supervise lessons, and do not complete statutory checks on a school's behalf.
11) Review & Contact
This policy is reviewed annually and when guidance changes.
