Terms for Tutors

  [Last Reviewed: October 2025]

       These Terms

  1. This document ("Terms") tells you who we are, the recruitment services we provide, and other important information. Please read these Terms carefully before you register with us. By completing and submitting a registration form, you will be deemed to have accepted these Terms.

  2. We are Teachers To Your Home Ltd ("we", "us", "our" or "the Company"). We are registered in England and Wales (No. 09204189). Registered office: 8 King Edward Street, Oxford, OX1 4HL. VAT No. 306567694.

  3. You can contact us on 03300 580908 or by email at [email protected].

  4. If we have to contact you, we will do so by telephone, SMS or by writing to you at the email or postal address provided when you registered.

    What we will do

  5. We are an employment agency as defined in section 13(2) of the Employment Agencies Act 1973. We provide work-finding services by introducing tutors to families, schools, or businesses (each a "Client") seeking tuition for children, students, or adult learners ("Tuition Work").

  6. You wish us to seek Tuition Work on your behalf ("Services"). Your subjects, levels, and teaching preferences are those stated in your registration form and online profile.

  7. We will process your personal data in providing these Services in accordance with our Privacy Notice at https://www.teacherstoyourhome.com/uk/privacy-policy.

  8. You agree that we may show your qualifications, subjects taught, academic profile, and tuition reviews on our website and within client accounts. If a client wishes to contact you, we will send them your email address (and send you theirs). We will not share your CV, references, or phone number without obtaining your explicit consent first.

  9. You acknowledge that we are under no obligation to shortlist you for any available Tuition Work.

    What you will do

  10. Where Tuition Work involves minors or vulnerable persons (someone who, by reason of age, infirmity, illness, disability or other circumstances, is in need of care or attention), you will provide two independent referees and copies of your relevant qualifications and an enhanced DBS certificate (or international equivalent).

  11. Additional requirements where the Client is a school (Teachers To Your Home in the UK, or British Teachers internationally): If the Client is a school or educational organisation ("School Client"), you acknowledge that additional safeguarding and onboarding steps apply and agree to: (a) provide an up-to-date enhanced DBS (or international/police clearance acceptable to the School Client) and the contact details of two professional referees; (b) comply with all School Client policies and procedures notified to you, including safeguarding/child protection, acceptable use of technology, online safety, data protection, and staff code of conduct; (c) use only School Client-approved communication channels and platforms where required; (d) follow the School Client's attendance, behaviour, escalation and record-keeping requirements where specified; (e) immediately report any safeguarding concern, disclosure or incident to the School Client's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) (or deputy DSL) and follow their directions; and (f) complete any induction or training mandated by the School Client before lessons commence.

    Contractual relationship and fees

  12. You are self-employed. Nothing in these Terms makes you our employee, worker, agent, or partner, and you shall not hold yourself out as such. When you carry out Tuition Work, you are engaged directly by the Client (family, school, or business) to provide tuition on a one-to-one or group basis ("Lesson"). You have no authority to bind the Company.

  13. You are responsible for coordinating Lessons with the Client and obtaining any necessary background information directly from them.

  14. You provide all teaching and learning resources used in Lessons. No materials are supplied by us.

  15. You are responsible for all costs associated with delivering Lessons, including travel expenses, unless otherwise agreed with the Client.

  16. The hourly "Tuition Fee" is agreed between you and the Client. When notifying you of suitable Tuition Work, we will state the proposed Tuition Fee; by asking us to introduce you to that Client, you agree to accept that Tuition Fee.

  17. You must complete a timesheet (via our website) after each Lesson for the Client's approval.

  18. We do not charge you any fee for our Services. We charge the Client a Platform Fee equal to one third (33.3333%) of the Tuition Fee.

  19. Once your timesheet is approved, we will forward your invoice for the Tuition Fee (and our invoice for the Platform Fee) to the Client.

  20. We recommend using Stripe Payments Europe Ltd ("Stripe") for secure payments. If the Client pays via Stripe, your Tuition Fee is sent directly to you, provided you have linked a Stripe account. Your use of Stripe is subject to Stripe's terms.

  21. If you choose not to use Stripe, you must agree an alternative payment arrangement directly with the Client, and we must also agree how our Platform Fee will then be paid.

  22. The Client remains solely liable for payment of your Tuition Fees. We are not responsible for payment on their behalf.

  23. You are responsible for all taxes and contributions arising from your earnings and shall indemnify us for any related liabilities, costs, or claims, including any interest, penalties, or expenses.

  24. We offer Clients a first-lesson guarantee. If a Client is dissatisfied with their first Lesson, you agree to waive your Tuition Fee for that Lesson, and we will waive our Platform Fee.
    Cancellations

  25. You and the Client should agree on what constitutes reasonable notice for cancellations. Recommended guidelines are: more than 24 hours - no charge; between 24 and 1 hours - 50% of the Tuition Fee; less than 1 hour or no-show - 100% of the Tuition Fee. Extenuating circumstances (e.g., illness or emergencies) may override these.

  26. If you terminate an engagement, please inform the Client and also notify us.

    International tuition (British Teachers division)

  27. British Teachers is the international division of Teachers To Your Home, providing online tuition worldwide to families, schools, and businesses. All international tuition is online; you must confirm lesson times carefully accounting for time-zone differences; international tuition attracts a premium fee, normally 1.5× your stated UK rate; payments remain in GBP via Stripe and any currency-conversion or transfer fees are your responsibility. Where the Client is a School Client, you must also meet the school's safeguarding and compliance requirements as set out in Point 11.
    Governing law

  28. These Terms are governed by English law. You may bring claims in the courts of England & Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland depending on your place of residence. We may bring claims in the courts of your country of residence.

  29. Acceptance of these Terms constitutes your full agreement with Teachers To Your Home Ltd.
