I am very experienced across a range of exam boards and have many years of excellent examination results in my portfolio. I have been an English teacher for over 20 years and enjoy working with students of all abilities and backgrounds. I believe everyone can achieve well with the right tools and skills. English can be an overwhelming subject, and I aim to make it clear and accessible to all students. English is a core subject, and there can be much pressure on students to achieve strong pass grades. I help students to build and refine their skills so that they can feel confident in any aspect of English study. Useful templates, examination tips and innovative resources, along with an empathic and nurturing teaching style, will really work towards achieving the best results.

Reviews for tutors in Portishead

4.9

Paul has been tutoring my daughter for just over a year, shortly after she moved to Gordano School. She was about a school year behind at Gordano as the school starts preparing students for the GCSEs in year 9 and not year 10 as in other schools. I was looking for a tutor who would help my daughter catch up and improve her confidence in the subject. Before his tutoring, my daughter hated Maths and did not believe she could achieve a passing grade. Not only has he helped her catch up with the curriculum, but he also managed to engage her in the subject. Her confidence in it has substantially increased, and she is even considering undertaking the subject at a higher level (post GCSEs). I highly recommend him, and I have no doubt he will be able to have the same effect on other students. Jatin, Portishead

Excellent tutor. It really turned my son's grades around. I have already recommended and will continue to do so. Thanks, Paul Sarah, Bristol

Hannah is a great Politics tutor. She explained the syllabus very clearly for my daughter, and went at my daughter's pace. Hannah is very knowledgeable, knows her subject well. Miss De Boehmler

Tom's confidence and positivity have massively improved since he has been having tutoring sessions with you. It is brilliant that he has your support with his NEA project, that you can teach him topics that he has missed through his illness and that you can help him prepare/ revise for his A-Level exam. He was getting very disillusioned with Computer Science before he had you and felt that his goal of going to university to do a Computer Science / Software engineering degree was unattainable. He very much enjoys his sessions with you. He says that you are easy to talk to and he feels very comfortable being with you. Tom like's the fact that he can send you work that he is doing/ things that he is stuck on as and when needed, for you both to resolve together in the next session. You explain things clearly and help him to find his own solutions. As the NEA project coding needs to be done by early November, he might need to have two lessons a week for some weeks before this deadline. We hope this is ok with you. We'll let Tom decide as to when he needs extra lessons and arrange this with you. Thank you for everything that you are doing for Tom. We feel very relieved and grateful that he has your help. He has had a massive struggle (physically and mentally) with his ME/CFS for nearly 6 years now and has gone from bed-bound/ in a wheelchair to managing 6th form college on a reduced timetable. I think that your help will give him that extra boost and enable him to see that he does have a future (he hasn't previously thought this). Many thanks, Vivienne Mrs Culpeper

Hi, I am a computer science teacher located in Bristol. I currently work in a secondary school but would be interested in doing some tutoring. I can tutor computer science, philosophy, and politics, both of which I hold to degree-level. I can cover all the aforementioned subjects up to A-Level. I would also be happy to tutor philosophy at degree level, since I hold a masters in the subject. Lessons would be bespoke to student needs, and I would be happy to set homework and mark it if that would be helpful! A bit about me: my hobbies are reading philosophy books and hanging out with my four cats, Viktor, Nico, Ember and Merlyn. I'm currently tutoring them in not scratching the furniture, but I must confess it isn't going particularly well.

Hi, I have been tutoring Maths to students who need extra help and/or refocusing for over 20 years. I have taught everything from 11+ entrance exams and KS3 through to exam help for those looking to achieve top marks in GCSE. As well as helping your child to understand some concepts they may find tricky by breaking them down into much simpler chunks, they will also benefit from 1:1 teaching, which they don't usually receive at school. I aim to familiarise students with the structure of exam questions so that they can go into formal exams with more confidence and less anxiety. If you feel your child needs help, please get in touch, and I will gladly chat with you to help find a solution that they feel comfortable with, ultimately benefiting their learning and exam success.

Hello, I am a highly qualified and experienced Biology Teacher and Tutor, with expert knowledge of the Biology Curriculum and can help you to understand the vast content and learn how to translate your knowledge into marks in exams. One of the most important skills in GCSE and A-Level Biology is the exam technique, and I have gained extensive assessment experience, including as an examiner for different examining boards (OCR and AQA and CIE), giving me a depth of insight into what the examiners are looking for. I like to tutor according to individual needs but will generally make sure knowledge is secure first, by working through content and then help students revise and navigate the specification with confidence. I firmly believe in modelling the content and skills required for exam technique and provide regular opportunities for scaffolded practise to build skills and confidence.

Because we only ever work with qualified and experienced teachers in Portishead, you will always get a highly experienced teacher who is safe, reliable and up to speed with the current curriculum and exam requirements. There is no excellent learning without excellent teaching, and our teachers are expected to teach in a way that inspires and motivates. We have over 20,000 talented teachers providing tuition, chosen for their broad range of experience, professionalism, academic specialisms, passion, and dedication to their students. We only ever offer qualified teachers as tutors, as we believe professional teachers provide the highest quality of tuition.

Location
Home Tuition: Involves a teacher coming to your home in Portishead to provide one-on-one instruction. This offers convenience as you don't need to travel. Online Tuition: This can take place anywhere with an internet connection. Small Group Tuition: Typically with between 2 to 4 children, and often occurs in a physical location such as your home, though it can also be online.

Individual Attention
Home Tuition: Offers the highest level of individual attention, as the tutor focuses solely on one student. Online Tuition: Still allows for one-to-one attention, but it may be slightly less personal than home tuition due to potential distractions. Small Group Tuition: Offers less individual attention as the tutor must divide their time and attention among multiple students.

Cost
Home Tuition: This tends to be more expensive because it involves one-on-one teaching, and the tutor is required to travel to your home, in Portishead. Online Tuition: Often more affordable than home tuition as your tutor does not need to travel but may still cost more than small group tuition. Small Group Tuition: Generally, this is the most cost-effective option, as the costs are shared among several families.

Flexibility
Home Tuition: Offers flexibility in terms of scheduling and curriculum, as your tutor will only be working with your child. Online Tuition: Provides flexibility in terms of location and may offer a wider selection of tutors. Small Group Tuition: Lessons will be more difficult to schedule as lesson times will have to fit in with other families.

Interaction
Home Tuition: Offers in-person interaction, which can be beneficial for students who learn better through face-to-face communication. Online Tuition: Provides interaction through video conferencing tools and chat, which can be engaging but may not suit everyone's learning style. Small Group Tuition: Allows for peer interaction, which can benefit collaborative learning and discussions.

The choice between home, online, or small group tuition in Portishead depends on your preferences, budget, and the student's specific educational needs. Each option has advantages and disadvantages, so it's essential to consider these factors when deciding.
