Reviews for tutors in Bury St Edmunds

Dave is among the nicest and most genuine people I have ever met. My daughter was bullied at school, and we decided to homeschool her with the teachers that we found. Dave taught Amy (my daughter) from approximately 2015 to 2021. He was absolutely amazing with her. He taught her maths and physics and helped with other things as well. Dave came to our house and was online during Covid. His timekeeping was excellent, and he is totally trustworthy. I genuinely cannot recommend him highly enough. Nothing is too much for him. If anything further information is required, please dont hesitate to contact me. Kevin Housden Kevin Housden

Dave was my private maths tutor for my final year of A Levels during the academic year 2016-2017. I owe a lot to Dave and cannot praise him enough. He got my grade from a predicted grade D to an achieved grade B (may I add the only reason this was not an A was because I did not resit my statistic exams - every maths module studied with Dave, I achieved an A in). Dave was always on time and well-prepared for every lesson. He had a personable approach and would turn up with a clear plan and examples to work through that suited my learning style. His mannerisms were excellent and made me feel at ease, which is not easy with a subject such as maths. He was extremely patient and explained in a simple yet comprehensive manner how to best approach each question. I will never forget that on the day before my mechanics exam, I called Dave in a panic, asking if he could give me one final lesson. Dave made this work - always willing to go the extra mile. Without Dave, I would not have gotten into my university of choice. I have already recommended him to others who have also benefited from his tutoring. Amelia Anastacia

Sarah is a very knowledgeable teacher, who can put a shy student at ease very quickly. My daughter started her weekly course with Sarah from Year 10 for GCSE French. We really appreciate the in-person tuition on writing, oral and listening French. My daughter has gained a lot of confidence and ability due to Sarah's great teaching. Her predicated grade for GCSE is 9 thanks to Sarah. Mrs Fu

Zo has provided both my children with bespoke teaching and learning support that centred them and honoured their place within their learning journey, boosting both their confidence and their achievement levels. For my neurodivergent child, she took the time to gain his trust, then devise and deliver a tailored educational experience for him. I would not hesitate to place my children with her again. Anon

I would highly recommend Zoe, she taught my son who has ASD and she really helped him in every way. Helped him deal with the hustle and bustle of school with his needs . Shes very easy to communicate with. A* teacher Mrs M.

With seven years of teaching experience, including two years of key stage two management and, more recently, a part-time role running intervention sessions and in-school tutoring for children from Year 1 - Year 6, I can offer targeted, impactful tutoring sessions for 5 to 11-year-olds. I love tutoring because it allows me to tailor sessions to an individual and watch them develop their understanding from them. I particularly love when you witness those 'lightbulb' moments when everything comes together for a child, and they start to link what you teach them to other areas of their learning. I pride myself on designing sessions which are fun and engaging, ensuring that students enjoy learning and are keen to continue their sessions. Communication is key for me. I like to get as much information about a child as possible, and I am scrupulous in reporting back what has been achieved.

Each and every child requires a supportive advocate, an educator who comprehends their unique needs and wholeheartedly supports their accomplishments. I possess the qualifications and expertise of a seasoned primary teacher, having dedicated 15 years to teaching in a primary school setting. While my current focus lies in instructing students in Lower Key Stage 2, I have also gained valuable experience in teaching and tutoring within the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1. This includes working with students with special educational needs (SEN) and those with English as an additional language (EAL). I firmly believe in the transformative potential of placing the student's motivations and interests at the core of their own educational journey. By truly understanding each learner, I strive to provide the utmost assistance in helping them achieve their goals.

Location
Home Tuition: Involves a teacher coming to your home in Bury St Edmunds to provide one-on-one instruction. This offers convenience as you don't need to travel. Online Tuition: This can take place anywhere with an internet connection. Small Group Tuition: Typically with between 2 to 4 children, and often occurs in a physical location such as your home, though it can also be online.

Individual Attention
Home Tuition: Offers the highest level of individual attention, as the tutor focuses solely on one student. Online Tuition: Still allows for one-to-one attention, but it may be slightly less personal than home tuition due to potential distractions. Small Group Tuition: Offers less individual attention as the tutor must divide their time and attention among multiple students.

Cost
Home Tuition: This tends to be more expensive because it involves one-on-one teaching, and the tutor is required to travel to your home, in Bury St Edmunds. Online Tuition: Often more affordable than home tuition as your tutor does not need to travel but may still cost more than small group tuition. Small Group Tuition: Generally, this is the most cost-effective option, as the costs are shared among several families.

Flexibility
Home Tuition: Offers flexibility in terms of scheduling and curriculum, as your tutor will only be working with your child. Online Tuition: Provides flexibility in terms of location and may offer a wider selection of tutors. Small Group Tuition: Lessons will be more difficult to schedule as lesson times will have to fit in with other families.

Interaction
Home Tuition: Offers in-person interaction, which can be beneficial for students who learn better through face-to-face communication. Online Tuition: Provides interaction through video conferencing tools and chat, which can be engaging but may not suit everyone's learning style. Small Group Tuition: Allows for peer interaction, which can benefit collaborative learning and discussions.

The choice between home, online, or small group tuition in Bury St Edmunds depends on your preferences, budget, and the student's specific educational needs. Each option has advantages and disadvantages, so it's essential to consider these factors when deciding.
