You are your child’s first teacher. Your home is your child’s first classroom.
Parents help shape a child’s emotional, social and physical development so they can thrive in school and beyond. As a parent, you must play your part to help prepare your children for school and to help them stay on track.
(1) Create a daily family routine, including healthy eating and sleeping habits.
(2) Provide a quiet place and a fixed time at home for homework.
(3) Regularly look at school books and homework.
(4) Talk with your child daily about their school work and activities.
(5) Read to your child and be a role model, by reading yourself.
(6) Monitor and limit and monitor phones, gaming, computing, TV and social media.
(7) Have high expectations and standards for your child’s learning.
(8) Attend all parent-teacher meetings and school events.
(9) Employ a high-quality tutor to support your child’s academic progress.
(10) Use community resources with visits to a library, museums, theatres, and zoos and encourage participation in after-school clubs, arts, sports and music activities.
